3 COMEDIANS TO WATCH - WITH THE 'FUNNY WOMEN' STAMP OF APPROVAL!
For too long - when it comes to the comedy stage - women have been told that it’s ‘a man’s world’. Not only do we find this to be fundamentally untrue, but we’ve listed some of our favourite female comics below to set the record straight!
SOPHIE DUKER
An alumna of the Pleasance Comedy Reserve, Sophie Duker was shortlisted for the Funny Women award in 2015 and founded and hosted the "Manic Pixie Dream Girls" show as part of Edinburgh's Free Festival in 2016 and 2017. Known perhaps for her famously witty segment ‘Being A Low-Key Black Girl’, or even for winning the 13th series of Taskmaster (the girl can do it all), back in 2023, Duker headlined a Trouble comedy show and - safe to say - we’ve been hooked ever since! But, don’t take our word for it - watch Sophie be hilarious in the flesh on her But Daddy I Love Her tour! Oh, and take a few friends - trust us.

ISABELLE FARAH
MC of the aforementioned Trouble comedy night herself, Isabelle Farah is equally a Funny Women graduate (if you will) - it’s worth mentioning that Funny Women really know talent when they see it! Isabelle started doing comedy in 2016 and has since gigged across the UK and internationally. She has taken two shows to the Edinburgh Fringe, Ellipsis (2021) and irresponsabelle (2022) and, in addition to commercial work and audiobooks, has narrated two critically acclaimed documentaries for TV. Now performing a new show, Nebuchadnezzar, we’ve been told, “It's Blackadder meets Aladdin, Monty Python meets Bab al Harra.” - What more could you want? What more could a person need?

BRONWYN SWEENEY
Last but abso-positively not least - the wonderful Bronwyn Sweeney! Blackpool-born but American-presenting, Bronwyn joined the London comedy scene as a way to atone for her sins of working in advertising. And atone she has! If you’ve ever heard her sketch about the ‘Vesuvius level power tool’ 😏 then you know…! Runner-Up in the Funny Women Awards 2021, and now starring on Comedy Central Live UK, we simply cannot get enough of this hilarious comic. And if you don’t believe in destiny…she happens to have been born on April Fool’s Day - and they say God doesn’t give with both hands!
