IS TAYLOR SWIFT THE ULTIMATE BACHELOR?
The internet is talking about one thing and one thing only: Taylor Swift’s Era’s Tour! And, though the Nashville star was initially flooded with praise and admiration, the conversation has since turned to a critique of Swift’s bachelor-like lifestyle.
Swift joined Forbes’ Billionaire list in October 2023, reporting her net worth at $1.1 billion. However, her worldwide tour is now estimated to make Taylor a massive $5.7 billion by the end of this year. Nevertheless, the internet now seems to be demanding a new feat of Taylor Swift: marriage and a family.
Newsweek actually published an article explaining that ‘Taylor Swift is not a good role model’ - why? Because, ‘at 34, Swift remains unmarried and childless.’ No mention of the fact that she is the ONLY musician to become a billionaire from music and performing alone: Newsweek would prefer that Taylor Swift made the humble amount suitable for a woman in her marriage era (excuse the pun) - the mid thirties. Newsweek went on to question whether we should, ‘encourage young girls to see the "Swift standard" as the norm, something to aspire to? Or should we be promoting something a little more, shall we say, wholesome?’ It’s doubtful unmarried men such as Colin Farrell or John Mayer (one of Swift’s exes and likewise musician) would be scorned for not having babies or a wife. Not to mention, any romantic relationships Taylor Swift has engaged in have been publicly attacked, and her love life compared to a ‘revolving door’ of men.
When will female artists be held to the same standard as their male counterparts? The simple truth of it is, if you’re away 2/3 of the year, performing all over the world, you will struggle to create a home and a family. Your priorities will have been mapped out differently. And, if this is a conversation the media would like to pursue, please ask why Taylor Swift’s unmarried 34 year old boyfriend equally doesn’t have children yet - there’s a headline we’d all love to read!
I feel this calls for some lyrics from none other than Taylor herself:
What's it like to brag about
Raking in dollars
And getting bitches and models
And it's all good if you're bad
And it's okay if you're mad
If I was out flashing my dollars
I'd be a bitch, not a baller
They paint me out to be bad
So it's okay that I'm mad.
It’s like she saw it coming….or has been experiencing it her entire career! We’re mad too. All we can say is; Taylor Swift, keep making Trouble.
