The number of sexual offence cases waiting to go to the court is currently more than 10,141. It's never been harder for victims of rape and sexual violence to get justice in the UK, but thankfully there are people out there advocating to change the system.

Dr Charlotte Proudman is an award-winning barrister, academic, and campaigner who represents survivors of rape, domestic abuse and controlling behaviour in the family courts. She'll join us for dinner to discuss her career, the huge problems that face the legal sector and her progressive views which have lead to death threats and her being titled a 'feminazi lawyer'.

Charlotte founded a nonprofit, Right to Equality, to advance gender equality. Right to Equality's mission is to change sexist and discriminatory laws that fail women and girls.

Charlotte also campaigned extensively for gender equality in the Garrick club, organising an open letter signed by over 100 legal professionals in the United Kingdom, calling for judges to resign their membership of a gender-exclusive club. At least five judges (one appeal court judge and four in the high court), eight high court judges, ‘about 150’ leading barristers, ‘dozens’ of serving and retired judges, ‘numerous’ senior solicitors, and current and former ministers in the Ministry of Justice. They voted a month later, in May, to open their doors and accept women as equal members.

Charlotte is also the author of "Female Genital Mutilation: When Law and Culture Clash," published by Oxford University Press. As an expert in FGM, Charlotte was instrumental in the introduction of FGM Protection Orders (FGMPOs) and she continues to represent victims of FGM in court.​
