Caged Birds - Let’s discuss Maya Angelou
'I write about being a Black American woman, however, I am always talking about what it's like to be a human being. This is how we are, what makes us laugh, and this is how we fall and how we somehow, amazingly, stand up again' Maya Angelou
Some books stay with you long after you’ve put them down. Others you return to, only to find that you have changed. This evening is a chance to discuss the brilliant I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings and talk about what it stirs.
If you’ve read the book before, years ago or recently, come ready to share. If you’ve re-read passages and seen them differently with time, even better. And if you haven’t read the book at all, you are still very welcome. This isn’t a test or a seminar.
A room, a book, and the courage to talk about what made us feel.
The Format
- Small tables
- Prompt cards to guide the conversation
- A table switch half-way through
- A bar, some drinks, and a room full of people wanting a proper conversation
Please note that every attendee is welcome to order their own drinks. We have moved the start time to 7.30pm to allow everyone time to eat beforehand.
