Polar Preet: The Woman Who Crossed Antarctica Alone
700 miles. A 90kg sled. 48 days of supplies. Polar Preet journeyed across Antarctica completely alone.
In November 2021, Preet Chandi stood at the edge of Antarctica and started walking. Ahead of her lay 700 miles of ice, brutal winds and some of the most inhospitable conditions on Earth. Behind her, she pulled a 90kg sled containing everything she needed to survive. There was no support crew and no one alongside her. Just Preet and the South Pole.
40 days, 7 hours and 3 minutes later, she became the first woman of colour to reach the South Pole solo and unsupported.
The following year, she returned to Antarctica with an even bigger ambition: to cross the continent alone and unsupported. She narrowly missed her intended crossing, but in the process travelled an astonishing 868 miles, breaking the world record for the longest solo unsupported polar expedition.
What happens to your brain when you are alone for weeks on end? How do you persuade yourself to get up and keep walking when every part of your body wants to stop? What do you think about when there is nothing around you but white?
Join us for an extraordinary evening with Polar Preet as we talk endurance, fear, loneliness, failure and discovering what you are capable of at the very end of the Earth.
