Rats, Drugs & Handcuffs: Pia Sinha's Life Behind Bars
Forgive us for the click-bait title, as we should first clarify that Pia Sinha has never been a prisoner herself. Quite the opposite in fact. Pia began her career as a higher psychologist at a younger offenders' institute (think Erin Doherty in Adolescence) before eventually rising to top dog, prison governor.
That’s right, the Gov’s droppin’ by, so you’d best be on yer best behaviour, yeah?
Pia was the first woman of Asian descent to become a UK prison governor, overseeing men’s prisons like HMP Thorn Cross, HMP Risley, and HMP Liverpool. Along the way, she tackled mass drug problems, rat infestations, and shocking hygiene standards.
Pia, who is now the CEO of the Prison Reform Trust, will join us for the evening to give us her insights on the prison system - how it works, how it doesn't and why a large number of female prisoners shouldn't be in prison at all.
